so, jessica and i have successfully started a bookclub. there were six of us at the first meeting with one who said she'd join but had another obligation. it was a pretty good time in general. i just hope it really takes off and people show up at the next meeting and read the book.
we've chosen "the virgin suicides" as our first book, and next time we're meeting out in the 'burbs! we've decided to be rather democratic in our book selections. we went around and discussed a bunch of books and wrote the ones we liked down on a slip of paper. when we had all our book selections--and when everyone in the group, including the absentee member had contributed--we threw them all into a hat and drew.
i'm excited to read "the virgin suicides" because it's been on my list for a while. i've seen the movie, but i'm sure the book is better. plus, the movie came out a long time ago. anyway, i read jeffrey eugenides' second book, "middlesex" and it was good, so i'm sure this one will be too. has anyone read it?

I haven't read it either, only Middlesex (which I loved). Let me know what you think!
